Kaya Fails to Capitalize On Man Advantage In Scoreless Draw With Stallion

Third placed Kaya missed out on an opportunity to stay within touching distance of current 1st Division frontrunners Loyola Meralco Sparks and Global on Sunday night, at the Emperador Stadium in Taguig City. Stallion Gilligan’s midfielder Ousseynou Diop was sent eight minutes after half-time for a second bookable offense, handing a man advantage to David Perkovic’s side. Despite the numerical superiority, all three points remained elusive.

Newly recalled Men’s National Team player Anton Del Rosario almost snatched all three points in second half stoppage time, but his long range effort was kept out by the crossbar. Stallion had more opportunities in the first half, with Ruben Doctora Jr., fresh from his trip with the Azkals, particularly threatening in attack. Diop’s dismissal took Stallion’s momentum in the match, though, and gave Kaya the impetus to grab a stranglehold of the match.

“That’s why I always love to play against them because it’s always tough,” said Stallion head coach Ernie Nierras after the match. His side has been undefeated against Kaya in the 2014 League, with the first round encounter resulting in a 1-0 win.

The stalemate leaves Kaya with 20 points, five adrift of second placed Global, and six points away from the top of the 1st Division. Perkovic’s side has played one game less, however.
