UFL: Kaya survives Air Force’s physical play, cruises to 4-0 win
Kaya FC endured a tough and physical fight from Philippine Air Force before cruising to a 4-0 victory in United Football League action Thursday night at the Emperador Stadium in MCkinley Hill in Taguig.
Ghanaian import Christian Ayew scored two goals, while striker OJ Porteria and defender Anton del Rosario chipped in one goal each to help give the victory to Kaya, which had to go through Air Force’s physical play in the first half.
Porteria opened the scoring for Kaya, burying a shot inside the box at the eighth minute.
Air Force then showed its rugged style of play against Kaya for the remainder of the first half which led referees to slap at least 14 fouls in total to both sides.
But Air Force got the wrong end of the physicality midway through the first half, as coach Edzel Bracamonte was ejected from the match due to his resentment to a play.
The woes continued for Air Force as two of their players were sidelined because of injury. Antonio Albor also received a red card which further reduced the squad’s already depleted lineup.
Kaya came out roaring after the break, as Ayew took advantage of the miscue by Air Force goalkeeper Kenneth Dolloso, who got out of position.
Ayew then flipped a shot from outside the box which rolled its way to the goal at the 47th minute give his team a 2-nil edge.
Ayew then sank another goal moments after, this time off a corner kick by Antonio Ugarte at the 57th minute, to put Kaya to a comfortable 3-nil lead.
Del Rosario capped Kaya’s victory with his goal at the 90th minute.
The victory helped Kaya move to fourth place with 12 points, just behind contenders Global FC, Stallion Sta.Lucia and the Loyola Meralco Sparks.
Meanwhile, Air Force dropped its eighth straight match to remain the only team without a win.
