UFL: Kaya, Nomads settle for draw

June 15, 2013 News

Kaya FC and Nomads FC battled to a 1-1 draw in United Football League action Thursday at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill in Taguig.

Striker Nate Burkey helped Kaya gain the lead at the start, burying a header at the ninth minute to give his squad an early 1-nil lead.

Kaya then continued to pounce on the attack, with veteran midfielder Chris Greatwich orchestrating the offense for the squad. However, its attempts at the goal failed to hit the back of the net, making the score unchanged after the first half.

Nomads came out roaring after the break, as Fidelis Nnabuife sank a goal off a missed shot by his teammate to tie the match at 1-1 at the 47th minute.

Both teams then tried to break the deadlock, with Kaya dominating the possession and finding more opportunities to score. However, a shot by late substitute Antonio Ugarte barely missed the mark midway through the second half which blew Kaya’s best chance to snatch the lead.

Nomads keeper Friso Klok, who made four saves in the match, also deflected some of the shots by Kaya late in the match, forcing two teams to settle for a draw.

The result helped Kaya improve its record slightly to 18 points with a 4-6-2 win-draw-loss record, but remained at fourth place behind title contenders Stallion Sta.Lucia, the Loyola Meralco Sparks and Global FC.
