Statement on OJ Porteria’s departure
Kaya Futbol Club would like to announce the departure of OJ Porteria. He joined Kaya in 2012, and his final appearance for the club was against JP Voltes on July 2, 2016.
After trying out and eventually being called up to play for the Philippine national football team (Azkals), the football prodigy moved to the Philippines and joined Kaya. Starting as one of the youngest players in the league and in Philippine football, he was a promising teenager who matured into one of Kaya’s most distinguished forwards. He was also a great ambassador for the club and represented us with profound honor and pride in the same way he represented the country. Beloved by fans and supporters, he was named SOMK Player of the Year by Ultras Kaya in September 2015, a testament to his growth, sportsmanship, and achievements as a Kaya player and genuine love and appreciation for Ultras Kaya. He exemplified Kaya’s spirit of brotherhood and extended it to everyone.
A tenacious and skilled forward, OJ scored goals on several occasions and embodied the club’s spirit on and off the pitch. He adhered to Kaya’s philosophy and understood the importance of hunger, heart, and humility. He played a pivotal role and was vital to the club’s success, especially in the 2015 UFL Cup, where Kaya claimed the title, and the 2016 AFC Cup, where we advanced to the last 16.
Everyone at the club respects his decision, and we all wish him well in his future career and beyond.
