Q & A with Miguel Tanton
Having just celebrated his birthday in fine fashion, with two goals and a Man of the Match performance yesterday, we focus our attention on the recently turned 28-year-old. He talks about what he enjoys most about playing for Kaya Makati, his experience playing with the Philippine National Team, and why he can’t be found on any social media platforms.
When did you get started with football?
I started kicking the ball at around 3 years old. I played in my first team when I was at age 4.
What about the sport drew you to it?
It’s what my brothers did. I was naturally drawn to what they were doing.
What is your favorite aspect of playing in midfield?
Midfield? I’m a striker.
Where were you born? What was your childhood like?
I was born in Mountain View, California, and grew up in Santa Clara County. I had a wonderful childhoold. My parents gave my siblings and I everything to be happy. I played football everyday, road bikes, climbed trees. I was always outside.
When did you find your way to the Philippines?
I came out here about four years ago for Christmas holiday and somehow ended up becoming a permanent resident. I’ve been with Kaya for just about as long as I’ve been in the Philippines.
Best thing about playing for Kaya?
Hands down, my teammates. We’ve got a diverse group, and a bunch of comedians.
What was the experience like playing for the Philippine National Team?
Aside from the World Cup Qualifier against North Korea, I was part of a friendly match against Perth Glory up in Vigan. Both games were great to be apart of. To play with, instead of against friends on rival clubs is special.
Why can’t you be found on any social media?
I applied for everything out there, but I got denied.
