Marco Casambre Joins Thai Club on Loan The Kaya defender will be away for the remainder of the Thai League 2 season, joining Sukhothai FC in their battle for promotion.
Kaya FC-Iloilo would like to announce that Marco Casambre will be loaned to Thailand’s Sukhothai FC, pending a physical examination. The young defender will be joining the Fire Bats for the second half of the Thai League 2 season, aiding in their fight to be promoted back into Thailand’s top flight.
Casambre has been Iloilo’s security blanket on the flank, holding down the starting left-back spot since signing in 2020. Though he was unavailable for Kaya’s recent Copa title run, his contributions during the club’s AFC Champions League debut last year cannot be understated.
The National Team representative is expected to return to Iloilo in June, and cleared to play come July. If the current schedule holds, this means he’ll be unavailable for the start of Kaya’s PFL and AFC campaigns; but could be back in time for the competitions’ latter stages.
“It was a difficult decision of course, since I wanted to help the team in the AFC tournaments and build on our previous performances,” Marco stated. “I think that Kaya FC will be a mainstay in the AFC tournaments for years to come, and I’m looking forward to rejoining the team for the [PFL Season] and hopefully winning it.”
This isn’t Casambre’s first stint playing for a Thai club, having suited up for Chainat Hornbill in the 2019 season prior to signing with Kaya. “I am excited to return and play in Thailand, and at the same time nervous since it’s a new team and place for me,” he admitted.
President and General Manager Paul Tolentino gave his thoughts on the deal stating, “The club is eager to see how he takes the challenge on, and we’re very much looking forward to him coming back and helping us try and win the league.”
Kaya FC-Iloilo wishes Marco all the best on this new challenge, and eagerly await his return later this year.
