Louis Clark’s Brace Lifts Kaya Past Defending Champions Global
After flying under the radar in the early stages of the 2015 UFL League, the spotlight is now well and truly on Kaya after they defeated defending champions Global on Saturday night. British winger Louis Clark did the damage for the title hopefuls, scoring two goals to keep his club’s record perfect in this League campaign. In other matches of the day, Team Socceroo and Pachanga Diliman played to a draw, while Loyola Meralco Sparks smashed Philippine Army 7-0.
“We got a bit of luck and we rode on it. We haven’t had that for a while and we got it tonight,” said Kaya head coach Adam Reekie. “Global has other priorities to think about, but they are a very good side. I’m happy to beat them but the next meeting will be different.”
Although Global were blanked on the evening, the defending champions came very close to scoring on several occasions. Izo El Habbib was particularly threatening in the first half, and it was his left-footed strike which came off the upright that came the closest to opening the scoring. After the break, the Sudanese striker had the ball in the net, but only for it to be ruled offside.
Kaya took advantage of Global’s missed chances in a fantastic move to break the deadlock. After a clever one-two with Chris Greatwich, Christian Ayew put in a pinpoint cross for Louis Clark to head in. As Global pressed for an equalizer, Clark put the nail in the coffin right as stoppage time was being added. The English winger punished a tentative Global back line to fire in the insurance goal. The victory continued Kaya’s incredible run of four-straight wins in the 2015 UFL League, without having conceded a single goal.
