The Kaya FC-Iloilo Women’s Team is set to compete in the Women’s Football Championship (WFC), an annual international tournament starring the very best of Southeast Asian women’s club football.

The event will run through October 17-21 and feature champions from around the region: namely Lion City Sailors FC (Singapore), Persib Bandung Putri (Indonesia), and Phranakorn FC (Thailand).

The timing couldn’t have been more ideal for this Kaya side, seeing as it comes during a break in the 7’s Football League schedule and right after the Philippines Women’s National Team’s training camp in Costa Rica—marking the roster’s return to full strength.

PWNT stalwarts Hali Long and Inna Palacios, top 7’s performers Bhebe Lemoran, Shelah Cadag, and Irish Navaja, as well as guest Filipinas Anicka Castañeda and Alisha del Campo are among those listed on the team sheet for the competition.

Kaya Women’s campaign for back-to-back 7’s Championships is chugging along, having recently wrapped up the group stage atop their division standings. Bound for their third Quarterfinal in a row, the ladies’ title defense is well and truly underway.

Indeed, the SingaCup-organized tournament presents an exciting challenge—considering how Kaya will be playing their first official 11-a-side matches since the pandemic. However, despite the relative suddenness of the invitation, it is a challenge that Coach Let Dimzon has been preparing for meticulously.

The Women’s team are finally returning to the full-sized pitch on the international stage, with domestic competition potentially in the cards not long after.
