Kaya visits Gawad Kalinga Napindan

On March 26, 2015, the Kaya players and staff, together with LBC Foundation, went to CSA Gawad Kalinga (GK) Napindan in Taguig for a build. The last time Kaya joined a GK build was in 2013, when they went to Trece Martires in Cavite, and the last time they organized a football clinic for GK was in 2014 with the kids of GK Concepcion.

As soon as the team arrived at GK Napindan, the friendly community welcomed Kaya with warm smiles and heartfelt greetings. They had prepared a brief program involving dance routines from different age-groups.

There were kids doing an ’80s-themed dance and a Hawaiian-style dance from the ladies. It was a good way to break the ice and connect with the community.

Afterward, the team went straight to business—painting walls, laying bricks, carrying sacks of cement, mixing cement, and even filling buckets using a good old-fashioned poso.

By 10:30 a.m., some Kaya players were already outside playing football with the kids of GK Pinagsama, the newest football team of GK. They kicked off the football clinic with some games before demonstrating how to do drills properly. The kids were thrilled to learn football from the players, who enjoyed sharing their knowledge of the sport.

The visit was capped off with a boodle fight–style lunch, which was exactly what Kaya had during their GK build in 2013. Everyone gathered at the table and ate with their hands before ending their visit to GK Napindan.

After the visit, Louis Clark was quick to recap the event: “Today was buzzing! Spending the morning at GK Napindan was an amazing and unforgettable experience. All the boys love getting together and helping out. We’re not just a team on the pitch, and it’s opportunities like today that prove that we can do something together for others. The kids were quality too—they inspire the whole Kaya family.”

Coach Adam Reekie, likewise, shared his thoughts: “I thought it was a great way to give back to the local community and to help others, those who are less fortunate than ourselves. The hospitality and genuine appreciation for our efforts were heartwarming.”
