Fresh from an impressive 3-1 victory in Laguna, Kaya Makati is looking to make it two consecutive wins on the road, as they take on the Davao Aguilas today. The Philippines Football League encounter will take place at 4:00pm, at the Davao del Norte Sports Complex.

With a total of around 16,000 in attendance over the last four matches at the Aguilas’ home stadium, today’s match is expected to once again draw a lively atmosphere.

“It’s a great feeling coming here and playing our first away game against Davao. All the games played by the Davao Aguilas have always had a great atmosphere, so we’re expecting a big crowd and we’re expecting an exciting game,” said Makati head coach Noel Marcaida.

The match serves as a homecoming for Kaya player Eric Giganto, who hails from Maco, Compostela Valley, a province of the Davao region. Giganto, a standout of numerous UAAP championships with Far Eastern University, is understandably excited to put on a show in front of a familiar audience.

“Majority of the crowd will be my friends,” he laughed. “The crowd will be very supportive. I’ve experienced it myself as a native of Davao. We hope to give them a great game. They have a strong side. Especially since they are eager to win [their first] three points, I’m expecting they will do their best. And so will we.”

Makati currently sits fifth in the PFL standings with 14 points after nine matches. Davao is one place below, with four points in eight matches, and still on the hunt for their first win. When the two teams faced off in the first round back in May, Kaya triumphed 2-0 at the University of Makati.

“We came here to win and to get maximum points against Davao Aguilas,” said Marcaida. “If we go back to the game where we played them in our home turf, we were very positive. We created lots of chances, and majority of the possession was with us. Although the Aguilas threatened in the second half, we held them to a 2-0 scoreline.”

Having just recovered from a difficult three-game spell against Meralco Manila, Ceres Negros, and Global Cebu, Makati is eager to build momentum in a month where the team will be involved in five matches in the next 21 days. The opportunity to create a strong run begins today.
