Kaya Makati Looks to Extend PFL Streak to Six
After a difficult end to June, Kaya Makati has come roaring back in the Philippines Football League. Unbeaten in six games, and on a five-game winning streak, Noel Marcaida’s side is aiming to be the first team to achieve six consecutive wins in the league. But Sunday’s visit to Biñan will be a tricky prospect, as Makati runs into a Stallion Laguna side that is in the midst of a streak of its own.
“From a coach’s perspective, we’ve been pretty consistent in putting emphasis on taking it one game at a time,” said Kaya head coach Noel Marcaida. “We may be on a five-game streak, but Stallion is also on a three-game winning streak, so they’re a completely different Stallion team. We’re expecting an exciting game tomorrow.”
Makati will carry the confidence of two previous triumphs over Stallion. The first, a 1-0 victory at the University of Makati in June, and the other, a 3-1 win in Biñan, which kickstarted Kaya’s current run. Laguna, however, is full of confidence, with two players, in particular, in fine form. New Swiss signing Gabriele Mascazinni has taken little time to find the back of the net since his arrival, while former Far Eastern University standout, Jhan-Jhan Melliza, has also been scoring with regularity.
“When it comes to morale, Stallion were able to gain lots of confidence from that winning streak. Mascazinni and Jhan-Jhan Melliza have been scoring the goals, so they will be the threats we need to look out for,” added Marcaida.
Kaya will be missing the services Jalsor Soriano, who misses out due to suspension. The new signing has been a constant at full back this season, but filled in at the center of defense last week in place of Alfred Osei, who is likely to reclaim his place in Laguna.
Sunday’s game will kickoff at 4:00pm at the Biñan Football Stadium, and will be available live on mycujoo.tv.
