Kaya FC–Iloilo Looks to Heap Misery on JPV Marikina on PFL Return Kaya FC–Iloilo are eager to shake off the frustration of a canceled match with a win over JPV Marikina
After two weeks without a competitive Philippines Football League match, Kaya FC–Iloilo returns to action on Saturday, May 5, looking to hand JPV Marikina a fifth-straight defeat. The match will kickoff at 4pm, at the Biñan Football Stadium.
The contest comes just three days after Kaya FC–Iloilo’s first scheduled match at the Iloilo Sports Complex, a game that was ultimately canceled due to Global Cebu’s inability to travel.
“Disappointed ang bawat isa sa amin, dahil gustong gusto namin na makalaro ng first home game sa Iloilo. Pero, nag-adjust naman kami agad,” said Kaya player Chy Villaseñor. “We look forward to this coming game. Ready kaming i-execute ang gusto ng mga coaches namin.”
(“Each one of us was disappointed because we really wanted to be able to play that first home game in Iloilo. But, we adjusted right away,” said Kaya defender Chy Villaseñor. “We look forward to this coming game. We’re ready to execute what are coaches want from us.”)
Although Iloilo has not played in the PFL since winning impressively, 4-1, against Stallion Laguna on April 22, head coach Noel Marcaida is confident the level of play won’t suffer against a hungry Marikina side.
“Even with the cancelation, we were able to maximize our stay there (Iloilo). We were able to build good relationships with the locals, and we were able to play a game with CPU (Central Philippine University). So, I think we were able to maintain that sharpness from each individual. In training earlier today, there was plenty of positives, and you can see the players are really hungry to play in this game,” he said.
JPV have lost four games on the bounce, a slump that started in April, in a 1-0 loss to Kaya. Since then, the team lost twice to Ceres Negros, and once to the Davao Aguilas. It’s a run of form that Marikina are desperate to arrest, particularly Patrik Franksson, who recently transferred from Kaya.
“Obviously I’m quite excited to play against my former team,” he said. “I can see the boys in training are really hungry for that win. We have four losses on our back, so we want to bounce back. We’ve been working really hard in training on our weaknesses. We’re very excited for tomorrow.”
