June 12, 2018; Manila — Three weeks after suffering a nightmare outing at the Biñan Football Stadium, Kaya FC–Iloilo heads back to Laguna on Wednesday afternoon, looking to erase the memory of a painful defeat to Global Cebu.

The loss not only snapped a four-game winning streak for Kaya, but the contest also saw Robert Lopez Mendy and Alfred Osei sent off with straight red cards — ruling them out for the club’s last two games in Iloilo. Both players are expected to return to action tomorrow, back in the same venue, and against the same opponents.

“They can’t wait to play again,” said Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida on Lopez Mendy and Osei. “It shows in training how much they want to be back in the starting list, and to have have the opportunity to redeem themselves. They know the importance of the game, and both of them have been wanting to perform well and bounce back stronger.”

Despite the absence of Robert, Alfred, and Jordan Mintah (injury), Kaya FC–Iloilo still managed to get four points in their last two outings: winning against Davao Aguilas, and drawing Ceres Negros.

“As of the moment, the morale of the team is really high. Despite the circumstances in the last two games, we were able to get the points and perform really well. Basically, we just want to continue how the team has performed in the last two games. Tomorrow’s game is very important for us because, we’re in the middle of the season, and Global is the only team we haven’t beaten yet.”

Although the Philippines Football League record shows that Kaya FC–Iloilo holds a 3-0 victory over Global, the win came via forfeiture, as Cebu was unable to travel to Iloilo for the fixture in May.

“We need to bounce back because the last time we played them we lost, and it was a bad loss. The key factor for us to win is to respect and stick to the coach’s plan,” said Kaya’s Cebu-born youngster, Dean Ebarle.

Due to the inclement weather, kickoff has been moved an hour earlier, to 3pm.
