Kaya FC–Iloilo are gearing up for their biggest match yet in the Philippines Football League, as they take on league leaders Ceres Negros, on Wednesday afternoon at the Biñan Football Stadium. Scheduled to kickoff at 3:30PM, the two rivals face off in a contest that could very well prove instrumental in deciding 2019’s eventual champions.
With a six point lead and a commanding advantage in goal difference, Ceres Negros have the opportunity to severely dampen the chances of their nearest rivals catching up. Kaya FC–Iloilo, meanwhile, are looking to make amends after dropping the first two meetings with the two-time defending champions.
“For us this is the most crucial match of 2019,” said Kaya head coach Noel Marcaida. “It’s a chance for us to extend the title race. If we calculate it, Ceres Negros are in an advantageous position to claim the title. But we want to push the title race up until the end. We can only work on things we can control. It’s important to perform well in our remaining matches. We want to bring maximum points tomorrow heading into our spell in Iloilo.”
Ceres came from behind to win 2-1 in the first meeting, with Jovin Bedic’s scorcher canceled out by two quick-fire goals. In the second encounter, which Negros won 1-0, Bedic missed a penalty and was sent off late. With an opportunity to exact revenge on Wednesday, the Barotac-born Kaya FC–Iloilo captain is adamant the entire squad is raring to go.
“Of course it’s always very crucial when we play against Ceres. For me, I just came back from injury and it’s not certain whether I’ll start, or come off the bench. But we are all motivated and ready for this game. Getting the win tomorrow will bring us closer to the league leaders and will give us good momentum going to Iloilo for our home games,” he said.
“Getting the result we want for tomorrow is what matters most. Full concentration and determination is what we need to perform at our best,” added Marcaida.
For those unable to make the trip to Biñan, the match will be streamed live over PFLTV.ph.
