Kaya FC Eager to Bounce Back and Kickoff Round 2 PFL 2022 — ADT Match Preview and Quotes from Coach Yu Hoshide

October 1, 2022 News

Following a tough 2-0 loss to United City FC, Kaya FC Iloilo are looking to get back to winning ways against the Azkals Development Team. Head Coach Yu Hoshide didn’t beat around the bush when asked about the team’s mood coming off their first defeat of the season.

“It was a really heartbreaking game because tactically, we were able to do what we wanted—we just didn’t get the result,” he stated. “However, we’ve already gotten over that game in a good way, and the players are looking forward to our next match on Saturday.”

It was an intense battle right from the opening whistle, a physical match with both sides refusing to give an inch. In the end, it was a matter of mistakes in transition and Iloilo were caught out twice in the second half. Although the scoreline left much to be desired, there were still several positive takeaways from the team’s overall performance.

“Actually, we want to continue what we were able to do: maintain possession in the middle third. We still need to improve our execution in the attacking third, and do better to avoid getting hit on the counterattack,” noted Hoshide.

The Azkals Development Team look to build on their 3-0 victory over Mendiola earlier this week, the side having noticeably improved since the season opener that took a heroic, added-time stunner from Eric Giganto to seal the win for Kaya. Now armed with momentum as well as a recent international campaign for a number of their rotation players, the boys in blue are all the more dangerous.

“The ADT players are really growing up both as a team and individually, game by game compared to when the season started,” Coach Yu acknowledged. “We can expect another tough game this afternoon.”

“Our players need to get their confidence back—they were actually doing really well, it’s just that the result didn’t go our way last game.” Hoshide continued, saying, “Sometimes we win, sometimes we lose; but the important thing is that we keep fighting for the club with pride. The results will come, that’s what I believe.”

Kaya FC-Iloilo are currently in second place in the PFL standings with two games in hand on the leaders, Dynamic Herb Cebu FC.
