Kaya FC Aim to Extend Winning Streak PFL 2022 — Maharlika FC Match Preview and Quotes from Coach Yu Hoshide
Following a dominant 6-1 victory over Mendiola FC 1991, the PFL table’s top spot currently seats Kaya FC-Iloilo. Aaron Altiche’s surprise goal in the 20th minute delivered a shock to Iloilo’s system, lighting the fuse that unleashed a scoring deluge from the yellow and black—featuring five different goalscorers on the evening.
Head Coach Yu Hoshide was thrilled with the win, but he lamented the team’s early carelessness—saying, “I’m happy, but we conceded a goal. Our target was a clean sheet so of course it’s happy, with a little unhappy mixed in.”
Jovin Bedic brought the game level with five minutes to go in the first half, while Eric Giganto seized the lead for Iloilo in added time. They continued after the break without skipping a beat, enjoying insurance contributions from Jarvey Gayoso, Bedic(again), Daizo Horikoshi, and Jhan Melliza.
“The players played with a spark, especially in the second half which was nearly perfect.” Coach Yu stated. “What I want is possession football, but the first priority for our GK and DFs is a clean sheet—and we have to improve our negative transition as a team.”
Maharlika FC’s season isn’t off to the best of starts, currently finding themselves second to last on the table. They underwent extensive changes to their roster, and brought in a new coaching staff over the offseason as well. Regardless, the Manila-based side have a penchant for comebacks and are an upset candidate whenever they take the field.
“We won three times against Maharlika since the 2020 season, but all of those games were really close so we’re preparing another tough game again this weekend,” Hoshide noted.
With that in mind, Kaya’s up for the challenge as team morale is in as good a place as it’s been all year. The boys are gearing up for a battle, looking to extend their winning streak and begin pulling away in the league standings.
“The players are in a really good mood now because we can play once a week, that routine is our happiness and it leads to winning,” said Coach Yu. “We’re developing a stronger bond game by game, and it’s a really good sign for four in a row!”
