Kaya and Stallion Stride Closer to Football Alliance Cup Semis

There were to be no upsets on the opening day of the Football Alliance Cup, as the higher placed clubs grabbed the initiative at the new Rizal Memorial Football Stadium. Kaya swept Pachanga PLDT Home Fibr aside in the first match, with Stallion Giligan’s following suit in the following game against Green Archers United Globe. The results gave the top seeded teams a major advantage heading into Tuesday’s second leg matches.

Jovin Bedic started the four-goal outing for Kaya in only the sixth minute, with Emmanuel Mbata adding a second before half-time with a clinical finish from inside the box. Substitute Inigo Herrera, a product of the Kaya academy, replaced Mbata in the second period and chipped in with a goal, converting new addition Diego Barrera’s pass into the box. Christian Ayew added the gloss to the scoreline, eight minutes from time. The only blemish in the outing was a 90th minute goal from Paolo Salenga, a strike that means Pachanga need to overcome a three-goal advantage in the second leg.

In the following match, Stallion leaned on a quick-fire double from Mario Clarino and newcomer Landry Nguene late in the first half to down a game Green Archers side. David Angelo Diamante and Robert Lopez Mendy came close to cutting into the lead before the final whistle, but both efforts went agonizingly wide.

The scores will carry over to the second leg, which will be held at Rizal Memorial Football Stadium on Tuesday.
