Fabien Lewis Kaya Head Coach

Kaya Futbol Club has appointed Fabien Lewis as its interim head coach.

Lewis, 32, was born in San Fernando, Trinidad, and moved to the United States to study at Canisius College, where he played for their football team and received several awards, including Conference Defensive Player of the Year, awarded by the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) in 2003. He later transferred to George Mason University to finish his college football career and earn his master of science degree in sports management. While at George Mason, he was also awarded Defensive Player of the Year in 2006.

Lewis had an excellent playing career, having made his professional debut for the Western Mass Pioneers in the USL Second Division. Throughout his professional career, he played for various football teams such as Atlético de San Juan FC in the Puerto Rico Soccer League, Woodlands Wellington FC in the S.League, and Central FC in the TT Pro League. He also represented Trinidad and Tobago at the U17 and U23 levels. He is notably remembered in the Philippines for playing for Kaya in March 2013.

“It’s an extraordinary feeling. Kaya is like family, and it’s always good when a family reunites. I am excited to get down to business,” said Lewis.

He holds a United States Soccer Federation “B” Coaching License and began coaching as early as 2006. In 2008, he joined the Virginia Youth Soccer Association (VYSA), where he was a state and academy assistant coach under former U.S. U15 head coach and VYSA technical director, Gordon Miller. He also served as an assistant to former Kaya head coach David Perković. Moreover, he has been certified with the NSCAA Goalkeeping Level 1 Diploma and has been taking up the Positive Coaching Alliance’s Double-Goal Coach course. Lastly, he is the executive director of Advance Soccer Development, a football company that offers top-notch professional training services to youth and professional players and teams.

“Kaya is a very organized and professionally run club. The players are technical, hardworking, and fun to work with. My goal is to build on our already-engraved fighting team spirit, add a disciplined but entertaining style of play, and try my best to help them to achieve all their team goals and aspirations.”

We are delighted that Fabien Lewis is back at the club, but as the head coach this time. Genuinely passionate and committed, he is well respected by the club and already embodies the Kaya values and vision that we are known for. He has established himself in football, and we look forward to the second round of the 2015 UFL season with optimism and zeal under his leadership and experience.
