Chy Villaseñor Primed for Bigger Role
Although Kaya Makati’s final regular season game ended in defeat against the Davao Aguilas, the match had an important silver lining: Chy Villaseñor’s outstanding Philippine Football League debut.
With Jalsor Soriano suspended, and Kenshiro Daniels out for the rest of the season after undergoing knee surgery, the stage was set for the young full back to showcase his ability. Despite not playing in a competitive match in over six months, Villaseñor not only proved a viable option in defense, he showed he could excel.
“Personally, I thought he was man of the match,” said Kenshiro Daniels. “He was assertive, he was aggressive, he didn’t look nervous at all. I thought he played very well.”
Such was Villaseñor’s performance, that he might’ve played himself into an important role in the upcoming PFL Finals Series.
“We’re happy that after that game against Davao, we saw that there’s a player that really stepped up. We’re really counting on Chy’s performance for the upcoming playoffs,” said head coach Noel Marcaida.
As for Chy, he’s not getting carried away.
“Masaya ako na nakapaglaro last Saturday against Davao Aguilas. First time ko maglaro sa hinaba-haba ng panahon, parang bumaba yung confidence ko. Pero, that time, okay naman dahil nabigyan ako ng chance. Ginawa ko lang yung mga tinuro sa akin ng coaches. Ginawa ko lang din yung part ko para ma makapag perform ng maayos,” he said.
“Nakaka-overwhelm,” he said of the praise being heaped on him. “Nakaka-encourage sa akin na galingan ko pa sa mga susunod na laro. I will train even harder, Focus lang ako sa role na gagampanan ko.”
