After the dust settled following the dramatic 0-0 draw between Cebu and Laguna on Wednesday, it was Iloilo who emerged victorious as the 2022-23 Philippines Football League Champions—Kaya’s first league title in the club’s 27-year history.

The festivities have already begun in the days following; but to some, the experience still hasn’t fully sunk in yet.

“To be honest, until I see the trophy, I don’t really feel it yet,” admitted Head Coach Yu Hoshide. “But I’m feeling good and I’m really glad that I was able to help make history for Kaya FC-Iloilo.”

The Japanese tactician led this team through much adversity prior to the beginning of the season, and has been amazed by his squad’s resilience. He credits everyone’s efforts in putting together this historic campaign to bounce back and win the league.

“I learned just how Filipino athletes display their quality on and off the field, whether it’s in games or in their home environment. It’s all part of the Filipino culture, upbringing, and education,” Coach Yu noted.

“Also, I think it’s all thanks to everyone involved with Kaya doing their jobs. I mean not only the coaching staff and players, but also the PT’s, the kit man, the management staff, and the fans and supporters who always contributed by cheering at the games and watching the livestreams,” praised Hoshide.

“This win belongs to everyone, and I really appreciate all of you who came on this journey with Kaya.”

The LBC-backed club have one final fixture on their schedule, set to face the very same Stallion Laguna FC side that just put on an impressive defensive performance to help seal the championship for yellow and black.

The wall of pink will need to be overcome to truly end this season with a bang, but Coach Yu is more than confident that his team’s attack is up to the task.

“Stallion showed a very solid defense, especially their goalkeeper, but our attackers are also in very good shape this season,” he stated. “I hope we can communicate well and use our combinations to break down the Stallion defense. Our communication and combinations in attacking third will be the key for winning on Saturday.”

In a message to the Kaya faithful, Hoshide said, “Again, I really appreciate all of you who always supported us. We will do our best for the last game of the 2022/2023 season, so please support us and enjoy watching tomorrow’s football. Una Kaya!”

See you all tomorrow for the Season Finale at the Rizal Memorial Stadium! Kickoff’s at 4:00 PM, and you can also catch the livestream on the PFL’s Facebook and YouTube pages!
