Manila, Philippines — Back from a schedule break and right in the middle of the rainy season, Kaya FC-Iloilo secured a second consecutive 9-0 victory on Wednesday night, this time against Tuloy FC. Despite the weather clearing up before the game, goals still rained down at Rizal Memorial.
In fact, it might be more accurate to say they were delivered with eagle-eye precision. Jarvey Gayoso accounted for seven of Kaya’s goals in this match, letting him soar to the top of the scoring leaderboard.
The first came in the eight minute when the speedy forward sprung a one-man counter attack: dispossessing a Tuloy player at the halfway line, accelerating past their backline, and tucking in the opener past the keeper. (1-0)
Shuto Komaki doubled the lead just five minutes later when an errant clearance fell nicely for him beyond the penalty arc. The Japanese winger’s one-touch landed just inside the top right corner, too much for the keeper to handle. (2-0)
Jarvey then picked up the pace with three goals at the tail end of the first half: starting with a 41st minute header off a cross from Marco Casambre, then a 45th minute scoop and score from a tackle at the edge of the Tuloy box, and then a 47th minute cheeky tap in off a keeper spill. (3-0) (4-0) (5-0)
In the 56th, Gayoso tried to score his fifth with another header from a Robert Lopez Mendy cross. The initial effort was blocked, but the ball was still in range for a point-blank tap in. (6-0)
In the 64th, he picked up a deflected through ball from Komaki before shaking the last defender and punishing the keeper for coming off his line. Lastly, Jarvey notched his seventh and final goal of the match following up a blocked shot from Sherwin Basindanan in the 75th. (7-0) (8-0)
Captain Audie Menzi joined in on the scoring fun, heading in a perfect pass from Shuto Komaki’s free kick in the 83rd minute. (9-0)
Kaya FC-Iloilo have jumped back to the top of the Philippines Football League standings, supplanting Stallion Laguna FC with six-goal lead on goal difference and a game in hand. Short turnaround for the defending champs, who face Manila Digger FC on June 1.
