Jordan Mintah Bags Four as Kaya FC–Iloilo Blank Air Force
Kaya FC–Iloilo 5-0 Philippine Air Force
Iloilo Sports Complex
25 September 2019 — Just three days after escaping with a narrow victory over Philippine Air Force, Kaya FC–Iloilo exploded for five goals in the rematch at the Iloilo Sports Complex. Jordan Mintah bagged four, including a second half hat-trick that quickly doused any hopes of a fightback. Barotac Nuevo-born captain Jovin Bedic added the icing on the victory from the penalty spot.
After struggling to create and convert chances over the weekend, the return of Jordan Mintah to the starting lineup, along with Masanari Omura and Alfred Osei, sparked immediate problems for the Air Force defense early on. Just 14 minutes into the contest, Mintah opened the scoring with a header from Jayson Panhay’s cross.
The flood gates remained closed, however, as Philippine Air Force kept things tight all the way to the break. Things changed after the restart. Within five minutes, Mintah struck twice to complete his hat-trick and effectively ground the Airmen. Before the crowd could even settle back in after half-time, Jordan put the finishing touch on a smooth transition on the left flank. Almost immediately after, he rose highest to head in from Panhay’s corner.
The Ghanaian forward added a fourth to his tally on a blistering breakaway. Found by Jovin Bedic out wide on the left side, Mintah cut inside his man and buried a low strike past the keeper. To add an exclamation to the result, Yannick Tuason was brought down inside the box, allowing captain Bedic to step up and casually score a penalty in front of his hometown supporters.
With five goals and a clean sheet, Kaya FC–Iloilo ensured their return home to Iloilo ended in emphatic fashion. Kaya next face Global Cebu on Sunday, at the Aboitiz Pitch in Batangas.
