Streaking Kaya FC–Iloilo Held by Green Archers
Philippines Football League
Green Archers United 0-0 Kaya FC–Iloilo
PFF Training Center, Carmona
Kaya FC–Iloilo’s hopes of extending their winning streak were dashed on Saturday afternoon, as they were held to a scoreless draw by Green Archers United at the PFF Training Center in Carmona. Unable to score for the first time in the 2019 Philippines Football League season, wayward finishing was the culprit for Iloilo.
Yannick Tuason threatened from the right flank early on for Kaya with two attempts within the opening 10 minutes. Then, Michael Casas made a fine close range stop to deny United’s Marvin Angeles from a corner.
Kaya turned up the pressure as the half wore on. Before the break, they managed three clear cut opportunities. First Tuason skied a volley after a knockdown from Darryl Roberts. Next, Tuason started a break on the right flank, but was unable to keep his shot down from close range. Eric Giganto also struck the crossbar right before the break.
Jovin Bedic, Marwin Angeles and Connor Tacagni came on in the second half to try to breakdown Archers’ resistance, but despite dominating the second half, goals remained elusive.
“The difference today is the finishing. It’s not that we were having a hard time creating chances, it’s about the fire and the killer instinct to want to score,” said Noel Marcaida. “We had some chances, especially in the first half that should’ve 100% been converted.”
“We controlled the full 90 minutes in terms of possession. But it doesn’t matter how much control you have, if you don’t score, you can’t win,” he added. “We will have to improve on that.”
With the result, Kaya move to 16 points, with five wins and one draw. Iloilo next face Ceres Negros on Wedesday, July 10, at Carmona.
