Kaya FC–Iloilo 6-0 Global Cebu
Iloilo Sports Complex
August 11, 2018; Iloilo — Kaya FC–Iloilo made sure to mark its final home game in the 2018 Philippines Football League with an emphatic win, scoring six against Global Cebu on Saturday afternoon. Jovin Bedic scored a brace, with Miguel Tanton, Robert Lopez Mendy, Jayson Panhay and Connor Tacagni adding one each.
“This was our third game in eight days. The players’ performance in the game really showed how hard they’ve worked in the last two weeks. It was total dominance, in all aspects of the game,” said Iloilo head coach Noel Marcaida.
Global Cebu asserted themselves well in the opening 20 minutes of the match, but the resistance was eventually broken by Miguel Tanton. After some clever play on the right flank from Jovin Bedic, a deflection sent the ball into the path of Tanton, who curled the ball first-time into the net. The second came just four minutes after. Released by Bedic on the right flank, Lopez Mendy got to the ball ahead of the onrushing keeper and slid the ball into the net from a tight angle.
After the break, the floodgates opened. Played in behind the Global defense, Robert raced towards goal. Once he was in shooting range, instead of firing, he teed up Jovin for an easy finish. Bedic then bagged his second just five minutes later, smashing in a deflected effort inside the box.
“Number one talaga yung fans, malaking tulong talaga, nag-boo-boost ng energy namin every game dito sa Iloilo Sports Complex,” said Man of the Match Jovin Bedic on his inspired form at home. “Kung pwede nga lang, yung 14 players na naglaro today yung Man of the Match kasi lahat naman talaga nagtrabaho talaga ngayon.”
As the full time whistle neared, Kaya found time to add two more to the score line through their substitutes. Given room on the right flank, Connor Tacagni raced towards goal and teed up Jayson Panhay, who drilled in Iloilo’s fifth.
“When Panhay scored his first goal of the season, you can really see the whole team was in that half celebrating with him. Throughout the 22 games we’ve had, I think that’s the best and greatest celebration we’ve had,” said Marcaida.
“Yung goal niya parang easy lang. Yung left foot niya talaga, it’s the best left foot na nakita ko. Tapos yung celebration, si Panhay talaga funny guy yan eh, kahit sa labas ng field. Masaya ako para sa kanya,” said Bedic.
The sixth came in added time from a flowing counter attack. Panhay did well to get a shot away under pressure. Although his attempt was saved, the ball fell kindly for Tacagni for an easy tap in.
The result pushed Kaya to 42 points, a win away from securing second spot for the 2018 season.
