Unfazed, Jordan Mintah Focuses on Road Ahead
Although the nature of Saturday’s defeat against Ceres Negros was a particularly difficult pill to swallow, Jordan Mintah seemed unaffected, cutting a relaxed, and easygoing figure on the journey back from Bacolod. Aside from scoring his 16th goal of the season, the Ghanaian striker felt there were plenty of positives to take from Kaya Makati’s gritty performance on hostile ground.
“That was a very intense game for us,” said Jordan. “Because of the rain, the match was so difficult for us. We did our best, but in football there are three possibilities: some we win, some we draw, some we lose. We need to accept whatever comes out.”
“We are so happy with what we did. We played together, we worked hard,” he said. “But we did not get the result that we wanted. We need to let it go and focus on the next game. Our next game against Global we need to get the points. We’re coming all out to get the points, so that we can get a better position in the league.”
Mintah found the back of the net just three minutes into the match, making it four consecutive games where he has featured on the score sheet. As usual, Jordan was quick not to take too much credit.
“My reason behind my good form is God. I just pray to God all the time. In my life, anything that is going to happen, I know God knows whether it’s good for me or not. So anything that happens to me, I just accept it,” he said matter of factly.
The striker was also heavily involved in Kaya Makati’s second goal. While he didn’t provide the final touch, Ceres Negros argued his role was pivotal, and rather malicious. Mintah gave his take.
“When Marwin (Angeles) crossed the ball, I attacked it. They thought I hit the goalkeeper’s head, but I just jumped over. The ball came out into a 50/50, and Mendy came over to hit the ball. The defender came to block it. Then Alfred—no one knows where Alfred came from—he came to put the ball in the back of the net.”
With a massive game against Global Cebu looming on Saturday, Mintah insists there’s no time to sulk in last weekend’s disappointment.
“It was a very tough game. We did our best. We have to accept the defeat, it happened already. We should focus on the next game, that’s the best thing we can do.”
