Kaya FC opened its campaign under its new coach on a high note as it dispatched Philippine Army, 3-0, in United Football League action Tuesday at the Emperador Stadium in Mckinley Hill in Taguig.

Army was initially aggressive in the attack, finding at least two great chances at the goal for the first 40 minutes of the match.

But Kaya, which played for the first time under its new coach David Perkovic, got its rhythm late in the first half, as Sean Iliff scored at the 43rd minute to give his team a 1-0 halftime lead.

Kaya dominated the match since then, as OJ Porteria hit the back of the net at the 63rd minute which came after an Army miscue.

Late substitute Janrick Soriano then made a shot at the 91st minute to seal the victory for Kaya.

The woes continued for Army even right before the final whistle. At the 93rd minute, defender Rodrigo Betita kicked the ball directly to one linesman.

In the next sequence, the veteran then went after the ball which was behind the linesman, but appeared to deliberately hit the official again. He was finally ejected with a red card moments after.

The result gave Kaya a much-needed boost in its League campaign, according to Perkovic.

“We can just build on in this performance and even go forward,” he said after the match.

Kaya improved to a 2-2-2 win-draw-loss record, while Army remained winless and lost its fifth match in six games.
