Manila, Philippines — When it rains, it pours; even on a clear night at the Rizal Memorial Stadium. Kaya FC-Iloilo put up a commanding twelve-nil victory over Garelli United FC to leap to the top of the Philippines Football League standings.
Last game’s Man of the Match, Kaishu Yamazaki, started the scoring frenzy in the fourth minute. Receiving the ball from Eric Esso in front of goal, he evaded two defenders before slotting in the match opener. (0-1)
Just two minutes later, Shuto Komaki recorded his debut goal for Kaya—pouncing on a loose ball near the penalty spot to double the early lead. (0-2)
Two minutes after that, Jarvey Gayoso scored Iloilo’s third—following up Jhan Melliza’s run into the box to smash the ball in at the near post. (0-3)
The next goal came in the 22nd minute courtesy of Kaishu Yamazaki once more. Following a Melliza interception in Garelli’s final third, the Japanese midfielder fired from outside the box to complete his brace. (0-4)
A pair of penalty kicks ballooned the lead to six, coming in the 28th and 38th minutes, respectively. Shuto Komaki sent the keeper left and finished in the bottom right corner for a brace of his own. After his involvement in two prior goals, Jhan Melliza put name in the scoresheet as well—this time sending the keeper right and finishing bottom left. (0-5)(0-6)
Robert Lopez Mendy resumed the scoring festivities in the 64th minute. On the receiving end of an inswinging cross into the box from Komaki, the striker headed in his first goal of the season. (0-7)
Three minutes later, Jarvey Gayoso joined the brace club off a looping cross from Fitch Arboleda on the opposite flank. Taking a touch for control, his strike bounced between the keeper’s legs and into the back of the net. (0-8)
A minute after that, Jarvey pounced on a loose pass from the Garelli backline before crossing the ball for Jhan Melliza to smash into the roof of the net. (0-9)
Keeping the assist train rolling, Kaya’s lead entered the double digits in the 78th minute. Yamazaki’s perfectly-timed through ball found Melliza behind the defense, who then squared it to Robert Lopez Mendy who nabbed his second of the night. (0-10)
Unsatisfied with just two goals to his name, Jarvey Gayoso added two more late in the game to complete the dozen. His third came on an 86th minute free kick at the edge of the box that he buried in the bottom left corner. (0-11)
His fourth came following a lovely exchange of touch passes that ended with Jovin Bedic’s through ball for the forward. Absorbing contact from a defender and staying on his feet, Jarvey slotted in Iloilo’s twelfth and final goal of the evening. (0-12)
The addition of a clean sheet made this a primarily perfect outing for the yellow and black, the momentum from which they’ll look to maintain in next Sunday’s matchup against Maharlika Taguig FC.
