The Brilliant Return of Kaya Women’s Following a dominant 7's group stage, Kaya FC are Quarterfinal bound and hunting for some silverware.
In their first competition back since the pandemic, Kaya FC-Iloilo Women’s Team have been tearing through the AIA 7’s Football League. The ladies finished top of the table in their group and locked down a spot in the upcoming Quarterfinals.
Kaya’s routing of their opponents has been a regular sight at McKinley Hill Stadium over the past few weeks, with a tight 1-2 loss to the Manila Nomads Brave the only blemish to their record.
With Coach Let Dimzon back at the helm alongside a slew of new and returning faces, the ladies have been downright prolific in terms of scoring—garnering a +25 goal difference in just six games so far. That number more than doubles the next-highest scoring team in the tournament, and it’s thanks to a truly balanced attack with contributions up and down the roster.
Newcomer and former UST frontwoman Shelah Mae Cadag put up a hat trick in the 8-0 opening night win versus Superbad FC. She would go on to lead the team in goals with six heading into the knockout stage.
Kaya’s #9 Irish Navaja has been spreading the wealth, setting up her teammates for success to the tune of a team-leading five assists—two of those coming in the 6-0 rout of Azzuri FC A.
Impressively, Bhebe Lemoran has been doing a bit of everything for the team. So far in the tournament, she has tallied six goals and five assists, tying the records of both Shelah and Irish respectively. Bhebeast, as she’s known, was unleashed in her full glory in the match against Maharlika, wherein she put up two goals and an assist to help secure the 4-1 victory.
Even more impressive is that there are thirteen different goal scorers and eleven total assist dishers. Kaya FC Academy product Izza Mascion recorded both a goal and an assist in the 7-0 thrashing of Azzuri Makati FC, while Shelah and Analou Amita delivered a 2-0 victory over Payatas FC.
This team has been firing on all cylinders since game one, and they mean serious business going into the tournament’s closing stages.
The 7-a-side competition was actually the first event the Women’s Team entered following their formation in 2019, when they finished second after falling to Stallion-Hiraya in the Final.
This time however, Kaya are poised to go for gold and bring in their first-ever piece of silverware—a perfect way to ramp up to the eventual return of proper 11-a-side action later this year.
