Philippines Football League clubs came together over the weekend to virtually kick off the 2021 domestic season. General Manager Paul Tolentino represented Kaya FC–Iloilo in the panel, where some major announcements were made.

Firstly, host Cedelf Tupas revealed the imminent return of Philippine club football, with the third installment of the Copa Paulino Alcantara set to kick off in April.  The club managers were thrilled by the relatively early resumption of action, giving them ample time to get their squads in gear. While the entirety of the 2020 season was conducted in a bubble setup, the final format of the upcoming cup competition is still  to be finalized in the coming weeks.

“Obviously we fell short [last year], and we’re not hiding from that fact either. To be frank, we created a lot of chances and just couldn’t finish,” Tolentino stated.

“For next season, I actually think the club is going in the right direction in terms of the style of play and the key pieces we have in the club. It’s really a matter of building on that and keeping some continuity going.”

With Kaya set to embark on their first foray into the AFC Champions League Qualifying rounds, he added, “Keeping that consistency will naturally be better and easier for the players to adjust and perform as we prepare for a higher level.”

The club managers come together for another live forum on January 30 (5PM) on 1 Play Sports’ YouTube Channel and Facebook Page. The event comes fresh after Kaya and UCFC learn their fate in the AFC Champions League and AFC Cup Draws which will be held on January 27.
