Kaya FC–Iloilo’s quest to qualify for the knockout rounds of the 2019 AFC Cup reaches a vital stage on Tuesday afternoon, as the Philippine club hosts Lao Toyota FC in a crunch Group H tie at 3pm, at the Panaad Stadium in Bacolod. Fresh from their first defeat in their last home match, the Philippine club need to bounce back against the Laotian champions to stay in contention for qualification.

“In order for us to have a chance to go through to the next round, we need to win our next two games,” explained Kaya head coach Noel Marcaida, whose side has five points in four games. “My players are ready. We’re really looking forward to these last two elimination games.”

Tuesday’s opponents will be a tricky test. Although Lao have been effectively eliminated from the competition, having only registered one point in four outings, they remain a potent threat, especially with experienced Japanese forward Kazuo Homma in their lineup.

“They have a striker that is very clinical, that really knows how to exploit space. They’ve proven that they’re the type of team that can score goals,” Marcaida pointed out.

For Iloilo-born Shirmar Felongco, Tuesday’s match not only provides a chance to get back on track in Group H, but also an opportunity to savor the AFC Cup stage once again.

“I’m very excited for tomorrow’s game. When the season started I was still injured and couldn’t play. My fitness was back to zero. I needed to increase my pain tolerance and to work double time to get back into playing shape. It’s been a long road,” he said. “I’m also excited because we’re coming from a loss. We need to bounce back.”

Tickets to Tuesday’s match will be sold at the Panaad entrances: P100 VIP, P50 Grandstand, P20 Bleachers. The match will also be aired on live TV on 5Plus and live-streamed on ESPN5’s online platforms.
