2011-2012 Season Recap: Kaya’s World Turned Upside Down by Global Attack

The first round of the UFL proved to be somewhat of a challenge for Kaya FC. As the 2012 league reached midpoint, the bumpy road ahead led the team into uncertain territory. Having missed the opportunity to gain a result against Loyola Meralco Sparks, with unfinished business lingering from the UFL Cup, Kaya FC continued to push forward.  Despite, the second loss to Loyola, Kaya had it’s sights on the next big match against Stallions, who like dark horses in the shadows of the league came out on fire. The Kaya-Stallion match up was a true challenge and a test against a strong, fast and organized team. Unfortunately, due to unplayable weather and field conditions Kaya’s early 1-0 lead had to be buried in the midst of a rainy night, brought to a halt at the 61st minute and postponed until further notice.  With controversy lurking over whether or not the game should resume or simply be played from the start, the UFL had a tough decision to make. Ultimately, the game was reschedule and the full match was to be replayed from the start with the score reset to 0-0. Much to the dislike of Kaya FC players, staff and fans, the decision brought about awareness to the potential direction of the league, and the significant decision for the rematch would set president for similar situations in the future. Although a tough pill to swallow, Kaya needed to refocus for one their biggest rivalries: Global FC. With turmoil and years of competitive feuds feeding the match, Kaya and Global became one of the most anticipated games of the first round. Having only conceded 5 goals prior to the Global match, Kaya FC was in for a big shock when Global found the back of the net 5 times in the game, matching Kaya’s goals against statistics in a single game.

It was then Kaya’s world was turned upside down from the fierce consistency of the Global Attack. Much like the effects of global warming, the heat was turned up on a Kaya side that found itself drowning in unfortunate mistakes and fighting hard to stop the relentless pressure by Global. Much can be said about the performance, readiness and execution of the team, but the result was a big wake up call for a team with their backs against the fence. With the odds stacked against them, facing unlucky breaks and taking hard punches in the standings and their ego, the team saw the need for some serious reconsideration for the second round.

Ending the first half of the season with a hard blow, really allowed the team to regroup, come together and reevaluate many aspects of the squad. It was a harsh reality that gave the team every reason to come back fighting and hungry as ever to take on the latter part of the league.

With the storm that passed, seemingly to leave only minor damages on points gained, Kaya FC is revamped and refocused with a fresh positive outlook on regaining lost time in the race to the top of the UFL standings. Rebuilding, reconstructing and coming together is what Kaya FC stand for; Moving forward is what they do. Kaya FC has it’s sight on tackling each team one at a time in the second round of the United Football League, with a fervent confidence of reclaiming points lost to a ‘Spark’ of misfortune and a ‘Global’ disaster. KAYA: We Can. We Will.
